There are good reasons why Lake Bled stands for Slovenia as the or the Matterhorn is to Switzerland.
It just stands out from all perspectives, being beautifully cutted into a lake with the only island in Slovenia, kind of painted by any Romantic artist in the last century.
Why this is like a miracle is that from wherever you take a picture, it seems to be a poetic composition, with the church of the Assumption in the island pointing to the skies, along the 6km around the lake.
Even if I was there in December, I learned that it’s possible to swim in the lake during Summertime, as the temperatures rise up to 26 degrees, thanks to a geothermal spring that is at the base of the lake. I can imagine myself going back there just for a dip!
Close by you can also visit the Bled castle, located in a spectactular natural cliff. Even if the interior is not that amazing, still the eagle eye views from there are well worth the walk up there.
Hint: The best is to combine the Bled Castle with Predjama Castle and Postojna Caves (that I describe in a different post), located around 1h by car or make a 1/2 day trip from Ljubljana
